Friendly meet BEL v SWE v AUT: gold for Team Belgium and Gaelle Mys!

This Sunday, Belgium welcomed the teams from Sweden and Austria in a friendly meet, a competition that served as a preperation for the upcoming World Championships (Glasgow, October 23 - November 1)! Remember that these World Championships will be very important for our gymnasts as they continue their Road To Rio!

Our Delhaize Top Team has dominated the meet, despite some mistakes, especially on beam (5 falls). Our Belgian gymnasts started their competition on floor exercise, where they showed a lot of control and expressivity. Julie Croket ( GymMax ) is the only one who made a mistake, when she put her hands down at the end of her last tumbling pass, a double piked. Jelle Beullens (De Gympies Keerbergen) also went out of bounds on her first tumbling pass but was clean otherwise.

Belgium had its best apparatus result on vault, showing four very clean full twisting yurchenkos. Warm up didn't go so well as Julie Croket got injured. After a ba landing, she seemed to have inkured her ankle. We do not yet know the extend of her injury but we hope that Julie will recover quickly.

On uneven bars, Gaelle Mys (OTV Nazareth) delivered a good performance, followed by Lisa Verschueren (Sportiva Sint-Gillis-Waas) and Cindy Vandenhole (Vaste Vuist Lauwe), who got 13,600 and 13,700 respectively, to earn the top marks for Belgium on this apparatus! Note that Laura Waem made her return to competition after her ankle surgery earlier this year. She is currently recovering and has therefore only presented a simplified bars set (no dismount).

In front of its homecrowd, Belgium was eager to finish the meet in style on balance beam. Unfortunately, Lisa Verschueren, Cindy Vandenhole and Rune Hermans (Gym Haacht) fell. Gaelle Mys then showed all her control on this apparatus that she loves. She also gets the best score of the entire competition, with a 14,200. Jelle Beullens was the last on balance beam with a flawless performance.

There were mistakes today, but this meet was a good test for our Belgian team against teams who will also be in Glasgow next month. Let's hope that Julie Croket will recover in time and that Laura Waem and Jelle Beullens, injured earlier this year, will be at 100%. Go Team Belgium!
